Tillman, Jenkins help VCU edge Saint Louis 75-74, OT

De’Riante Jenkins coolly nailed a 3-pointer from the top of the circle as VCU tied the game at the end of regulation, and Justin Tillman scored six of his 25 points in overtime as the Rams rallied to edge Saint Louis 75-74 Tuesday night.

Tillman’s third basket of the overtime put VCU up 69-65 and Saint Louis came within a point three times, but could never get the lead. Tillman added 12 rebounds. Jenkins, Issac Vann and Khris Lane each scored 10 points for VCU (13-8, 5-3 Atlantic 10).

Jones hired Boies and told owners on the compensation committee that he is considering a lawsuit to block Goodell’s five-year extension, which would run through 2024.

Jones, through a letter sent by an attorney for the Cowboys, accused Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank of misleading owners about the negotiations on the extension.

He had four sacks in his first game with his new team in Week 1 against the Texans, earning AFC defensive player of the week honors. Campbell would go on to record three more multiple-sack games in 2017.

His work getting to the quarterback both off the edge and inside allowed end Yannick Ngakoue to break out with 12 sacks while playing either opposite or next to him. Campbell remained a dominant run defender, as well.

The Jaguars had plenty of great defensive players on every level. Ngakoue and Bouye had fine seasons. Cornerback Jalen Ramsey and linebackers Telvin Smith and Myles Jack all were vital to Jacksonville’s high level of success in pressure and coverage, racking up sacks and atakeways. But because everything starts up front, Campbell stood tallest as the No. 1 part of the NFL’s No. 1 pass defense.

Aaron Donald and Fletcher Cox had monstrous years at defensive tackle. Lawrence, Cameron Jordan, Von Miller, Khalil Mack, Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram were also outstanding coming off the edge in various alignments.

LSU infield completes blitzkrieg diamond-crossing double play

No. 4 LSU and Florida State drew the nightcap in the College World Series’ opening slate, and the Tigers and ‘Noles are locked into a grinding, error-filled battle. Both teams are stacked on their pitching staffs and up and down their lineups, and this matchup has lived up to its dramatic expectations.

In the top of the seventh inning and with FSU holding a slight 4-3 lead over their opponents, Dylan Busby who’s responsible for all of the Seminoles’ runs production thus far grounded down the third base line where Josh Smith fielded it clean and whipped it across the diamond to get the force at first.

From there, LSU first baseman Nick Coomes returned fire back across the diamond to Smith, who successfully made the tag on a hard-charging JC Flowers. That ended the top of the frame: a 5-3-5 double play.

LSU tied things up at four all on a wild play that ranged all over the park.

Remember when the Phillies were stacked with young pitching, and all they needed was a lineup around them? It takes a couple months for any team to realize that there’s no such thing as too much pitching depth.

Like most teams, though, this pick didn’t have much to do with what was happening in the upper levels of the minors or with the major league club. This was all about the talent and projectability, and that’s what the Phillies got here. Every team can use this kind of talent infusion, but the Phillies, with their small payroll, large market, and serious expectations, needed it just a little more than most.
